Born in Littlefield, TX on June 15th, 1937 into a poor family, Waylon started playing guitar when he was just 8 years old. His first gig was as a radio DJ at the age of 14. His career in music really started when he met Buddy Holly who took him under his wing. Waylon was included at one of his recording sessions in 1958, and that launched his career. From there, he was then hired to play bass guitar for Holly’s band with just two weeks to practice.
After the plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly and two others on Feburary 3rd, 1959, he continued making albums and fighting for creative control of his music. In the 1970s he began the Outlaw movement with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and others. It was also during this era that he made country music history, along with his fourth and last wife Jessi Colter, Willie Nelson and Tompall Glasor. They put together an album which featured songs from all four artists called “Wanted! The Outlaws.” He also was the man behind the theme song for the show the “Dukes of Hazzard” and narrated each episode. He made one only sole appearence in the last episode of the final season.
